We are excited to share a progress update on our latest project! Converting a touring catamaran into a self-sufficient home and blue water sailing boat on a tight budget requires creativity and efficiency.
Drawing from our experience with a similar project in 2021, we're navigating this transformation with confidence. More about this project:
The integration of the dinghy lift and the traveller provides a lot of additional comfort.
The carbon sandwich construction reduced the weight more than 80% compared to a steel design.
For the new project on we faced the challenge of a limited budget. Simplifying the design process, we initially presented a simple pencil sketch to clients for approval before diving into 3D design. By streamlining components for the new solar roof, we managed to save weight while enhancing functionality.
Anticipating an increase of only around 50kg with the new Carbon structure, thanks to strategic removal of davits, part of the sea fence, and the old stainless steel bimini.
For mounting the roof to the hull we use the old david attachment points, from the structural point of view ideally located in the strong edge from bridge deck to the hulls.
The traveller is integrated on the roof surface. The mainsheet is converted in a German Mainsheet System with a winch in helmsman position. For that we add a carbon console easy to reach from the seat.
The incorporation of solar cells enables complete autonomy, even allowing for running the Air Condition on scorching 45-degree summer days in the UAE. The roof is currently in production and will soon be ready for mounting.
